Emma Marshall: Why I’ve Worked in Engineering Recruitment for 6 Years

Working in engineering recruitment

If you’re an experienced recruiter ready for a new role, or even an entirely new sector, this blog is for you! Our Talent Acquisition Manager, Rachael Bailey-Frost, sat down with Emma Marshall for a quick chat about why she has continued to recruit in the engineering sector for over 6 years, and why she made the move to ATA Recruitment.

Emma began her recruitment career after leaving her role as an Estate Agent in 2013. Despite learning a handful of transferable skills, she hadn’t had any previous recruitment experience when she made the change. Working for another engineering recruitment company, Emma worked as a 360 Consultant in the FMCG and automotive sectors recruiting both permanent employees and contractors. Fast-forward 6 years, and Emma joined ATA in April 2019 with extensive knowledge of the recruitment and engineering sectors.

Why engineering recruitment?

The market is just so buoyant and continuously growing, especially with his quickly technology is moving forward. I was a little intimidated by the idea of working with engineering, but I’ve not looked back since. I like playing my part in making these ground-breaking infrastructure projects happen by finding the best engineers to complete the work and I get a real sense of satisfaction from it. That’s why when I was leaving my last company, I knew I wanted to stay within the engineering sector.

Why did you join ATA Recruitment?

In my last role, I didn’t really feel like I was learning anything. I was good at my job, but I wasn’t being taught how to develop and become even better. I was also quite keen to get a more in-depth understanding of the engineering sector. It was clear that ATA could offer me both the training and the knowledge of the market, while still being able to offer a good work-life balance. I was really nervous of leaving my previous company as it’s all I’d known in recruitment, but it’s become clear very quickly that I made the right decision
