Mechanical Design Engineer 

Design of pipework, structural steel and vessels 

£50-£60 per hour (Ltd Company – Outside IR35) 

12 month initial contract with possible extensions. 

This well-established manufacturer is the market leader in its sector and following some significant project wins, they are going through a rapid growth phase. The company is currently working on a variety of projects that require the design of skids for the Oil & Gas sector which include a wide range of pipework and vessels. The role of a Mechanical Design Engineer will involve the following:  

  • Understand the specification from the client. 
  • Working with the CAD / Process & Manufacturing teams. 
  • Design of Mechanical skids which include structural steel, pipework, vessels and other mechanical equipment. 
  • Produce a wide range of calculations including Stress / Seismic and Fatigue Calculations 
  • Working to ASME VIII and PD5500 depending on the end client’s location 
  • Carry out the Hazard Analysis, Essential Safety Requirements and Particular Material Appraisal 
  • Will also complete structural design of skids including skid frameworks, walkways and gantries  
  • Using StaadPro, PV Elite & Caesar II to complete the calculations required. 

The Mechanical Design Engineer will need to have the following experience:  

  • Experience in the design of pipework, vessels and structures for the Oil & Gas sector. 
  • Competent in the production of calculations including stress, seismic and fatigue. 
  • Experience in using 2 out of the following software packages – StaadPro / PV Elite / Caeser II
