As he approaches the end of his first month with ATA, we caught up with our latest Leicester Recruit, Tony Thorpe. Tony joined the ATA team as a Principal Consultant in early August after having spent 15 years as a professional footballer.
Starting his professional football career in 1992, Tony played as a centre-forward for Luton Town before being purchased for £1 million by Fulham in 1998. Scoring 167 goals in 350 appearances, he went on to play for several other clubs including QPR and Bristol City, before eventually retiring from football in 2007.
Following his successful football career, Tony was in the market for something new and his outgoing personality and passion for building relationships helped him to establish a career in sales and eventually, recruitment.
Why ATA Recruitment?
After 5 years in education recruitment, Tony joined ATA in August and will be working from our Leicester office, specialising in interim senior appointments within the FMCG, automotive and aerospace sectors. When asked what attracted him to ATA Recruitment, he said:
“I saw the role advertised and it touched on business development which is something I really enjoy. I had no experience in engineering but the training plan was a real selling point for me – it was made clear from the beginning that I would have all the help I needed to learn the sector.”
After visiting our Leicester office and meeting with the Branch Director, Chris Addison and Divisional Manager, Steve Harrhy, Tony felt confident that ATA was somewhere he could excel.
“The whole process was so professional and I was really bought into the management team. It was obvious that I could learn a lot from both Chris and Steve and i’m excited to develop into my new role and grow with the business.”
