Mechanical Design Engineer

Derbyshire

Salary: £35,000 - £45,000 per annum (based on experience and qualifications)

The company:

Our client are a Mechanical and Electrical projects company who support their industrial clients with building and technical services.

As a business they support Blue Chip clients by installing Power, Lighting, Piping and HVAC systems into there current setups.

They are a long-standing business who have been established for over 100 years who have seen consistent year by year growth turning over £80 million last year, an increase from £55 million three years prior. They are backed by a larger parent company who turned over £175million in 2023.

The Role:

We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer with Projects experience to join their team in Derby.

This role would see you working as the primary Design engineer in the team, working directly alongside the internal project management team to deliver projects.

Components will include: HVAC and extraction, ducting systems, piping systems and layouts, as well as mechanical components and fixtures for Security, Alarm and Lighting systems. You will also be responsible for performing load calculations, duct sizing, equipment selection of catalogue products i.e. Motors, fans and bearings.

The range of products and components will differ from project to project, offering a great variety of day-to-day tasks, avoiding too much repetition.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop mechanical designs for guarding, safety circuits, air extraction units, walkways, and whole HVAC systems for industrial and commercial premises
  • Ensure designs meet fabrication and installation requirements.
  • Conduct area/asset surveys and update existing designs to comply with new legislation.
  • Provide technical support and expertise to the project team.
  • Communicate effectively with installation teams and management to ensure project requirements are met.
  • Support estimating team with sourcing quotes from suppliers
  • Using Revit and AutoCAD 2D for design tasks.
  • Attend site visits across the east midlands

Qualification Requirements:

  • Mechanical qualification (BTEC, NVQ3, or HNC).
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD 2D and Revit or a similar 3D package
  • Ability to confidently design in 3D, and create 3D models from scratch
  • Ability to learn industry relevant design standards

  • Effective communication with all levels, including clients.
  • Dynamic and adaptable to varying project requirements.
  • Wanting to learn and develop their own skillset.
